One of the oldest synthetic pigments with very good hiding power, tintig strength, drying properties and chemical estability. It´s a lead anonimate used a colour tint in yellow ceramic glazes already in Babylion and Assyria and was also found in Egyptian glass of the XIX Dynasty.Up until the water colour period it´s importance is undocumented.
It has been essencial to the landscape tradition becouse it has the quality of appearing to receed into the pictures distant plain sun like other yellows which sit in front of the plain.
EGG TEMPERA:
Egg tempera is composed of egg yolk, powdered pigment, and distelled water. the egg yolk serves as the binder that holds the pigment together. The addition of water turns the paint into a usable paste-like form. Manufactured egg tempera also includes gums that act as dispersants.
Egg tempera is know for its linear qualities and capacity to produce jewel-like paintings. While it was once popular medium that reached its peak during the Renaissance, egg tempera fell out of favor with the rise of the more versatile oil paints.
